Precision Optics Optician
Job Overview:
This position is located in Sarasota, Florida. No state income tax in Florida.
This position would best be filled by a highly experienced precision optics technician who is very familiar with Strasbaugh conventional polishing machines. Our work is almost exclusively on IR crystal materials such as Ge, GaAs, ZnS, ZnSe etc. This department primarily polishes windows, but some long-radius spherical work is also done here. Sizes range from 10mm diameter up to 254mm diameter.
If your experience is in primarily visible materials, we can train you to polish these materials.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Set up machines (including both grinding and polishing) to start a production cycle
· Proficiency in grinding techniques
· Proficiency in reaching required specs such as power, irregularity, scratch/dig, wedge etc.
· Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools such as autocollimators and interferometers
· Test operation of machines periodically
· Fix issues that might occur during the shift
· Keep records of approved and defective units or final products
· Maintain activity logs
Qualifications:
· Proven experience as a precision optics optician
· Understanding of production procedures
· Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective gear)
· Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals
· Analytical skills
· Attention to detail
· Teamwork and communication skills
· Physical stamina and strength
· High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree is a plus, years of experience even better
